Spring 2012 workshops

How can I deliver a powerful farm visit that inspires a sense of wonder in the natural world for visitors with disabilities?

A person carefully potting a plant. The regional workshops in spring 2012 will focus on sensory learning experiences that enable visitors to make links between food, farming and nature, with less reliance on verbal communication from the host. They will be facilitated by Susie Emmett (www.green-shoots.org). The focus of 'Let Nature Feed Your Senses' in 2012 will be on delivering farm visits for visitors with sensory and mobility impairments and learning disabilities, and this will be reflected in the activity ideas presented. Susie will also present handouts overviewing the implications of various conditions (including Aspergers, the Autism spectrum, Down's Syndrome, and various sensory impairments) for farm visit planning and delivery.

Any farmer in England interested in hosting farm visits for disabled visitors is very welcome to take part in the training (although numbers are limited). There is no charge to attend a training event. If you are not a LNFYS host we request a £10 donation to cover refreshments. Please kindly confirm your attendance by 1st February to Carol in the LEAF office, either by email at carol.cartwright@leafuk.org or by phone on  024 76413911 .
